Using the maps and information
These maps and explanations are general geographic reference material. The boundary source and vintage are identified on each state page. Generalized cartographic boundaries are not property surveys, legal boundary determinations, emergency guidance, or live navigation information. Check an appropriate official source before relying on a map for a detailed decision.
Rights and reuse
You may read and link to individual pages and download the SVG or PNG files for ordinary reference. The underlying U.S. Census Bureau boundary data is a U.S. government source; the site’s original writing, design, and generated presentation are subject to applicable intellectual property law. Keep the Census source and year with a map when you share it. Do not republish substantial parts of this site or use automated access that disrupts its availability. These terms do not limit uses permitted by law.
The PNG files are raster versions of the matching SVG drawings. Changing the image size or format does not add detail to the underlying 1:5,000,000-scale boundaries. When adapting a map for a publication or handout, retain a source line that identifies the Census Bureau, the 2025 vintage, and the source scale so readers can assess what the image shows.
External resources and changes
Links to the Census Bureau, USGS, and other external sources lead to sites operated by their own publishers. We may update or remove pages and files when sources change or errors are corrected. We cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability or that every external link will remain current. Report a broken map or link through the contact page .
Law and related policies
Spanish law governs these terms to the extent permitted by law. Mandatory protections and rules on court jurisdiction remain unaffected. Our privacy policy explains personal data handling, and our cookie policy explains browser storage and third-party services.
